Gulf State Park Fire Update and Thank You

Latest News Posted on March 26, 2026

Mayor Robert Craft and Gulf Shores Fire Rescue would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the agencies involved in the recent brush fire at the Gulf State Park.

On Tuesday, March 24, a fire spread in the Gulf State Park due to a downed powerline. Thanks to the quick response of our fire rescue crews, a fire attack was immediately initiated. As the fire grew, local agencies jumped in to help and several nearby roads, including Highway 59, were temporarily closed. Several businesses were also evacuated out of an abundance of caution. The fire was contained and mostly extinguished by 6 p.m.

Gulf Shores Fire Rescue Chief of Staff Melvin Shepard provides the following update on current conditions:

• Smoke will continue to linger in the area until the fire is fully out.

• Residents and visitors may smell smoke or notice small spot fires.

• Any rekindles are not expected to spread far.

• Some hotspots are located in marshy, inaccessible areas, and crews will continue addressing what they safely can.

• Please don’t be alarmed if you see smoke, but if you notice anything that appears concerning, call 911 immediately.

Again, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the many partner agencies who helped contain the fire and keep our community safe, as well as to the local restaurants who provided food and water to first responders throughout the response.
