The Waterway Village Pedestrian Bridge project is a key part of our vision to enhance safety and connectivity, ultimately allowing the addition of a third southbound lane to the Holmes Bridge (Hwy 59).
Here is the latest from the field:
Roadway & Traffic
• ALT 1 Construction: Grading is complete for the new roadway and parking areas! Topsoil and sod are in, and curb/gutter work along 24th Ave is ready for paving.
• Looking Ahead: Paving on ALT 1 is scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 9.
• Traffic Note: Expect 24th Ave to close briefly at the E 2nd St intersection on Feb. 9 for paving. We anticipate restoring normal traffic on 24th Ave by Feb. 10, with E 2nd St fully reopened by late February.
Bridge & Elevator Towers
• North Side: All 15 bridge pilings have been saw-cut and removed to the proper elevation. Work on the north pile cap has officially begun!
• South Side: We successfully poured the first 20-foot vertical section of the South Bridge Bent Columns on Thursday, Feb. 5. These are currently under thermal blankets for a 7-day curing period to ensure maximum strength.
• Elevator Towers: Piles for the North Elevator Tower are cut to final elevation. Next up: pouring the mud seal and forming the pile cap!
