Trash & Recycling Services
Residential Garbage Services
The City of Gulf Shores contracts with Republic Services to provide weekly residential garbage services for standard household garbage.
- Once a week pickup on either Mondays or Thursdays for areas north of 2nd Ave (please see the map below)
- Twice a week pickup on Mondays &Thursdays for residences south of, and including, 2nd Ave (Beach Rental District)

Residential Waster Container Guidelines
Properties in Gulf Shores Corporate Limites:
- Position containers 1-5 feet from street or alley edge, ensuring clearance from vehicular and bicycle lanes
- Place containers curbside no earlier than 4 p.m. on the day proceeding collection
- Remove containers from collection point by 7 p.m. on collection dat
- Note: In designated areas, per city council resolution, waste management provides will handle container placement and retrieval
Beach Boulevard Properties (AL Highway 182)
- Place containers at designated collection points no earlier than 4 a.m. on collection day
- Remove containers by 6 p.m. on collection day
Container Storage Requirements:
- Maintain container storage behind the front building line when not staged for collection
- Properties exceeding one acre: Position containers minimum 100 feet from public right-of-way

Residential Debris Services
The City of Gulf Shores provides weekly residential debris services. Items that will be picked up include yard debris, cardboard boxes, old furniture, and white goods.

2025 Trash & Recycling/Debris Pickup Holiday Schedules:
Mardi Gras (March 4)
Trash & Recycling: Routes will run as scheduled.
Debris Pickup: Tuesday's routes will be picked up Wednesday, March 5.
Memorial Day (May 26)
Trash & Recycling: Routes will run as scheduled.
Debris Pickup: Routes will run as scheduled.
Independence Day (July 4)
Trash & Recycling: Routes will run as scheduled.
Debris Pickup: Routes will run Monday, June 30 through Thursday, July 3.
Labor Day (September 1)
Trash & Recycling: Routes will run as scheduled.
Debris Pickup: Routes will run as scheduled.
Thanksgiving (November 27)
Trash & Recycling: Routes will run one day behind.
Debris Pickup: Routes will run Monday, November 24, through Wednesday, November 26.
Christmas Day (December 25)
Trash & Recycling: Routes will run one day behind.
Debris Pickup: Routes will run Monday, December 22, through Tuesday, December 23, and Friday, December 26.
New Year's Day (January 1, 2026)
Trash & Recycling: Routes will run one day behind.
Debris Pickup: Routes will run Monday, December 29, through Tuesday, December 30, and Friday, January 2.
Residential Recycling Services
Thank you for partnering with The City of Gulf Shores to keep our community clean and environmentally sustainable. The following information is for educational purposes surround our local recycling center as well as proper means of disposal for special and medical waste.
Curbside (Single Stream):

Carts should be out the night before or by 6 a.m. the day of service
Items that can be placed in cans for curbside pickup:
- Aluminum Cans
- Cardboard
- Newspaper, Magazines, & Office Paper
- Paper Products
- Plastic Jugs (rinsed)
- Tin Cans (rinsed)
*No items containing food residue, oil, aerosol, wax, or Styrofoam are allowed in residential curbside cans.
Drop Off Center:
The City of Gulf Shores operates a drop-off recycling facility located at 160 W. 36th Avenue. All items must be sorted into the proper bins.
Please note we do not accept medical waste, aerosol cans, paint or tires.
Items accepted at the Drop Off Recycling Center:
- Styrofoam
- Cardboard
- Plastic
- Plastic Bags
- Paper
- Aluminum Cans
- Household Batteries
- Glass Jars & Bottles
- Scrap Metal
- Tin Cans
*Paint, Electronics, and Lightbulbs are accepted periodically. See Special Recycling Dates below.
Automotive Batteries and Motor Oil:
These items are locally accepted at the Wal Mart Auto Care Center.

If you need to dispose of paint before our Special Recycling Days (listed below), it can be disposed of at the Baldwin County Solid Waste Magnolia Landfill located at 15093 Landfill Drive, Summerdale, AL 36580.

Household Medical Waste:
Please contact your local healthcare provider for proper handling and disposal procedures of household medical waste. For additional information, contact the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, Environmental Services Branch at (334)271-7984
Special Recycling Days
The City of Gulf Shores will periodically host special recycling drives where the public can drop off items that are not normally accepted. These items include electronics, fluorescent lightbulbs and paint.
2026 Special Recycling Days:
- March 21-30
- June 20-29
- September 26-October 5
- December 19, 2026-January 5, 2027
