Mosquito Control
Living in Coastal Alabama, virtually surrounded by water has its obvious advantages, but our near tropical environment is equally attractive to mosquitoes. In an effort to control the mosquito population the City of Gulf Shores has been engaged in a mosquito control program for many years. This program, managed by our Public Words Department, institutes a comprehensive plan which includes neighborhood spraying, larviciding, barrier spraying and testing as well as continuous surveillance. Insecticides used to control the mosquito population present no danger to humans (including children) or pets.  For more information on the materials used in this program, contact the Mosquito Control Officer at 251-500-0065.

What You Can Do

The City of Gulf Shores encourages its residents and visitors to help curb and control the local mosquito population by following the steps below:

  • Turn over any unused flower pots to eliminate standing water
  • Clear rain gutters of any leaves to prevent water from collecting
  • Discard of tires and any other yard debris that hold rainwater
  • Refresh your birdbath every week
  • Keep swimming pools clean and properly maintained
  • Frequently change water in pet dishes
  • Keep boats drained or covered so they will not collect water
  • Fill tree holes with sand or mortar
  • Repair leaky pipes and outside faucets

The City of Gulf Shores Mosquito Control Officer is available for onsite property inspections by appointment.
