Storm Lee
GULF SHORES, ALABAMA – September 2, 2011, 1:00 p.m.
Gulf Shores, AL – September 2, 2011 - The City of Gulf Shores, in anticipation
of Tropical Storm Lee, has begun taking precautionary measures to ensure
public safety and protection of property. While the path of Tropical
Storm Lee is unclear, the National Weather Service predictions have indicated
significant rainfall in the amount of 10-15 inches can be expected.
At this time, the City of Gulf Shores has begun pre-positioning equipment,
removing objects from local beaches and preparing to protect low-lying
areas by deploying emergency pumps in flood prone areas. The City of
Gulf Shores public safety personnel are prepared to react, in the event,
of an emergency. Tide warnings are in effect along all area beaches indicating
the threat of high surf and severe rip currents. For current surf conditions,
call (251) 968-TIDE (8433).
Residents living in low-lying areas should expect heavy rainfall and
localized flooding and should begin taking precautionary measures to
protect themselves and their property. Anyone experiencing flooded roadways
or conditions can contact the Gulf Shores Police Department at (251)
968-2431.
City officials advise all citizens to monitor the storm and take appropriate
actions, as necessary, to protect life and property. City officials are
urging all citizens to exercise extreme caution when driving in flooded
areas. As road conditions can change rapidly, the public is discouraged
from driving over flooded roads or around barricades. Please use extreme
caution until roads reopen.
