Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft and the City Council members announced the hire of Lee Jones, AICP, to the position of Director of Planning & Community Development at the work session meeting on Monday, April 1.“We are excited to welcome Lee Jones as the Director of Planning & Community Development of Gulf Shores,” said Mayor Robert Craft. “With his extensive background and experience in planning and development, we believe that Lee will be a wonderful asset to our team and provide effective leadership to ensure high quality planning for the current and future development of Gulf Shores.”In his new role, Jones will be responsible for the programs of planning, community development and community redevelopment. Additional responsibilities will include providing leadership and guidance over strategic planning, long range planning, zoning and development, and subdivision activities for the City.“Having been a member of the interview committee, I’m especially pleased to learn of the selection of Mr. Lee Jones as the new Director of Planning and Community Development,” Robert Steiskal, chairman of the Gulf Shores Planning Commission, said. “I was especially impressed by his resume in general and his experience in particular. I look forward to welcoming him back within the next few weeks as a member of city staff.”Jones comes to Gulf Shores with nearly 20 years of experience in urban and regional planning, urban design, transportation and zoning. He received his Bachelors of Landscape Architecture from Mississippi State University and a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from University of Southern Mississippi.“I am honored to be named the Director of Planning and Community Development for the City of Gulf Shores,” Jones said. “I look forward to working with the professional and dedicated team in the City to help bring about beneficial growth in Gulf Shores, while maintaining its unique character, sense of community, and quality lifestyle. My wife and I are thrilled about putting down roots in Gulf Shores and raising our four children in such a close-knit, picturesque community.”Jones will begin his duties as Director of Planning & Community Development immediately.
