Single Red Flags now posted on Gulf Shores beaches

The double red flags that closed waters along Gulf Shores beaches for parts of Thursday and Friday were replaced by single red flags Friday afternoon. The presence of single red flags indicates high surf and/or strong rip currents are present.

While the posting of single red flags effectively opens the waters to swimmers, public safety officials urge those entering the Gulf to exercise extreme caution and asks the public to observe and obey the beach warning flag system.

For more information regarding current surf conditions, dial 251-968-TIDE or visit www.gulfshoresal.gov.
