Spring Break 2018

open letter mayor

Greetings…and welcome to Alabama’s beautiful Gulf Coast!

On behalf of the Gulf Shores City Council, our residents and City staff, thank you for choosing to spend your spring break with us.  The Gulf Coast has become Alabama’s number one tourist destination and we hope the recreational opportunities, pleasant climate, delicious cuisine, Southern hospitality, and natural beauty of our locale will enhance your visit.

You will notice many improvements being made to our City’s infrastructure.  New sidewalks along Gulf Shores Parkway from the bridge to the beach, center medians and sidewalks along Beach Boulevard, the newly renovated West Gulf Place public beach area complete with a 20’ wide boardwalk, shade structures, enhanced landscaping and new Beach Safety Headquarter building.  Additional improvements are ongoing at Gulf Place, the main public beach area, which will be ready in early April.  We apologize for the inconvenience construction may cause but we are excited to provide these extraordinary upgrades to the public spaces that will benefit our residents and visitors for years to come.

As our area wakes up after the winter off‐season and people are drawn back to the beach, we encourage you to educate yourself and become familiar with a number of municipal ordinances that help keep the City safe and enjoyable for all.  We remind you that violation of these ordinances may result in an arrest or the issuance of a citation requiring a court appearance.

  • Possessing or consuming alcohol on the beaches south of the sand dunes within the City of Gulf Shores corporate limits is prohibited during the designated spring break period: March 3 – April 8, 2018
  • Sleeping in vehicles or out‐of‐doors is not allowed
  • Pop‐up tents are only allowed in certain locations on the beach and ALL items must be removed from the beach daily
  • Unreasonable noise or loud music will not be tolerated
  • Fires are not permitted on the beach

Once again, we thank you for choosing to visit the City of Gulf Shores and we trust that keeping a few simple rules in mind will help ensure that all of our visitors enjoy themselves.
